Thunder Bay, ON – March is National Engineering Month and the Lakehead chapter of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) teamed up with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologist (OACETT), the Churchill Highschool Robotics Team, and Lakehead University to host an open, interactive display at Intercity Mall. On Saturday, March 5th, in collaboration with LU’s Research and Innovation Week, PEO and OACETT hosted a booth to demonstrate science and engineering through various experiments and interactive displays. Several engineers and technologists from various disciplines were on site at the display to show off the experiments and to explain how they work and why. The purpose of this event was to promote Engineering in the community with this year’s theme being “There’s a place for you!”. It was an opportunity for youth to learn about the many disciplines of engineering and to and allow them to see where their skill set and interests can fit in. Since there are so many different types of engineers, it is important for kids to understand the various things they can do as engineers and that there is a vast variety of engineering disciplines they can pick from based on what truly motivates and excites them the most. The booth display was geared towards grade school students but education and fun was had by all!
